Secondary Schools and Colleges

Below are a list of example sessions we can run for your Secondary school or College group. If your school has any particular learning outcomes or goals that are not listed below  we are happy to tailor sessions to meet your requirements. All costs include equipment hire and all sessions are run by our qualified coaches. All climbing aspects are tailored to the ability of the groups.

One-off sessions

Taster / Ice-Breaker / Risk Assessment Workshop
Duration – 1.5 hour

Ideal for teachers to get to know their new year group or for groups looking for a climbing experience, this session involves lots of climbing and challenges that will be sure to break the ice and get them talking. Why not get your pupils out of the class room to learn about risk assessments in an environment where safety and constant risk assessing applies.

 

Team Building
Duration – 3 - 4 hours

Ideal for groups looking for a team building activity. Each stage will have floor and wall based activities.

Example Timetable

9.30am - Arrive, safety talk, warm up

10.00am - The basics of climbing

11.00am - Communication workshop

12.00am - Lunch

12.45pm - Problem Solving workshop

1.45pm - Leadership and trust workshop

2.45 - Wrap up

 

Junior Inductions

Duration - 1.5 - 2 hours

Min Age - 14 years

Ideal for schools and colleges that can only bring their group once but would like to enable their pupils to continue climbing if they so wish. A Junior Induction is all about getting the group to be responsible, know how to climb safely and keep others safe. Once completed participants can become Junior Members of the centre and come and climb when ever they like.


National indoor bouldering award scheme (NIBAS)

These can be booked weekly/fortnightly, during school hours or after school. Ideal for G.C.S.E physical education.

New Boulderer Level 1
Duration – min 4 x 1 hour or 3 x 1.5 hour sessions

Cost - From £28 p/p (inc a NIBAS workbook and completion certificates)
An entry–level award for candidates who wish to learn what bouldering is as a physical activity and how to use a bouldering wall safely.

 

Foundation Boulderer Level 2
Duration – min 6 x 1.5 hour sessions

Cost - From £40 p/p (inc a NIBAS workbook and completion certificates)
Aimed at helping the candidate to understand how a bouldering wall works and basic preparation and control while bouldering, with an introduction to equipment and movement skills.

 

New Boulderer and Foundation Boulderer Level 1 & 2

Duration – min 8 x 1.5 hour sessions

Cost - From £55 p/p (inc a NIBAS workbook and completion certificates)

 

Competent Boulderer Lever 3

Duration - min 8 x 1.5 hours

Cost - From £55p/p (inc a NIBAS workbook and completion certificates)
Corresponding to most bouldering–only centres’ “membership” standards. This is aimed at ensuring a candidate possesses the knowledge and skill to boulder safely at any bouldering facility and operate in a responsible manner.

 

Registering your school wall

You may be able to run up to NIBAS level 2 on your school traversing or climbing wall. All information on the minimum wall requirements can be found in the NIBAS handbook. Costings for schools looking to run NIBAS

Level 1

Registration Fee = £30 (+ VAT) renewed per year

Staff Induction (min 2 people) = £50 p/p (+ VAT) renewed every 3 years

Workbooks and Certificates = £5 each

 

Level 1 and 2

Registration Fee = £35 (+ VAT) renewed per year

Staff Induction (min 2 people) = £50 p/p (+ VAT) renewed every 3 years

Workbooks and Certificates = £5 each
