A Busy Month Ahead

27 Jan 2015 12:15

With January slipping away we thought it would be worth looking head to a very busy month we have coming up.

This Saturday (31st Jan) we have the first ever Beastmaker International Footless Festival (B.I.F.F.) being held here at The Climbing Works. An incredibly unique event this will be not like any other climbing competition - in fact the words 'climbing' and 'competition' might not necessarily be the correct terms to describe the frivolous amusement that will be had this coming Saturday. For those wishing to take part all the info you need is here. Those wishing to come down must have tickets which are available at The Climbing Works reception desk. They cost £2 with the full amount going to CAC. The whole thing kicks off at 8pm and should be done by 11pm.

Also this Saturday we will be having the Sheffield centre of StreetDoctors UK visiting The Climbing Works to raise awareness & funds for their great charity.
"StreetDoctors is a national charity teaching life-saving first aid skills to young offenders and young people at risk of violent crime. We will be at The Climbing Works & Mini-Works on Saturday 31 January teaching anyone who wishes how to look after an unconscious person and what to do if a person is bleeding. There will be free demonstrations throughout the day and all are welcome to join in and have go. And if you've done some first aid before, why not brush up on your CPR? We will also be selling cake in aid of StreetDoctors. For more information on what we do and who we are visit streetdoctors.org"

On Monday 2nd February at noon we will open registration for The CWIF 2015. Last year we filled all 350 spaces within an incredible 48 hours. You have to be quick, psyched and keen to make sure you get a place for 2015. The CWIF itself will take place on the weekend of the 7/8th March 2015.

We also welcome back the British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Climbing Championships to The Climbing Works on Saturday, 21st February. We'll have 400 students battling it out to see which University will come out on top for 2015. As usual, the main Climbing Works will be CLOSED all day but the Mini-Works will be open as normal (10am-6pm). The main Climbing Works will be open on Sunday 22nd February with a new BUCS circuit to try and some final problems on the Berghaus competition wall.

Add into the above add GB Junior Team Training, the final round of the Northern Universities Bouldering Series (NUBS) and our normal setting of circuits....that's a busy few weeks.

Also in February is the second Foundry Bouldering Open (F-BO) on Saturday 7th February. This is a brilliant competition and well worth entering. You can find all the details on the Foundry website here. If you enjoy your competitions, then you'll also want to visit the Outdoor Show in London (13-15th Feb) for various climbing competitions (with our own skilled orator Percy Bishton bringing his skills to the microphone), coaching and general climbing shenanigans.

Told you it was a busy month ahead...
