Weekly Updates - February 2012
This morning we closed registration for The CWIF 2012 as we had reached our limit of 330 entrants. We have created a pdf of all the registered competitors which you can view here. If you are not on the list then you cannot compete (sorry, but you should have been more organised).
The list is first name alphabetically sorted so if you have registered please check the list and make sure that:
You are on the list.
Your name is spelled correctly.
You are in your chosen qualifying session (am or pm)
If you are in a team, the team name is listed.
Please make sure you visit www.thecwif.co.uk to read what you've got yourself into.
If you need anything changed or added, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are no longer competing PLEASE PLEASE contact us to let us know so we can give that space to someone else.
We will be sending an email out today to everyone who has registered. If you do not receive an email, its because you forgot to put one in the form (eejit!!).
With 11 days to go, we're pretty psyched that we've filled all the spaces already. Thanks for being part of The CWIF. You're going to have a great weekend!!
With just under 2 weeks to go to The CWIF we're over the 300 competitor mark and we have under 20 places left. It's all building up to a great event and we're getting things ready for the big weekend.
The buildup starts tomorrow with a part strip of the Berghaus Competition wall. It will be removed of all its volumes and reset with bolt-on's only. This will probably be the only time in its history that the Berghaus competition wall could be described as 'basic'. All the problems will be taken down next Wednesday morning with also the Red, Green & Pink circuits coming down to make room for the CWIF circuit. The red & greens will go back up on the Monday the 12th March so don't worry if this is your grade range.
Over the whole weekend we will be raising money for the Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Macmillian Cancer Support. Any teams who take part are asked to donate £10 to the charity box while Scarpa & Berghaus are providing £2000 of raffle prizes over the weekend. There will be one very special grand prize that will be drawn on the Sunday night after the Finals with the lucky ticket holder winning £1000 of Berghaus & Scarpa kit! We will also have a number of spot prizes over the weekend, a prize for best dressed (fancy or other) team and our infamous random giveaway during the Finals.
It's going to be a massive event and when you add in ShAFF taking place over the same weekend, you have no excuse not to be in Sheffield on the 10th & 11th March 2012.
To follow all the buildup and going on's, keep an eye on this blog and also our Twitter page. You can also follow the #shaffcwif hashtag to keep on top of things.
In the meantime, watch the 2nd trailer for The CWIF 2012 below and start getting psyched!
The last round of the Evolv Bouldering League took place on Friday night and it was another cracking evening with 25 blocs testing the cream of British bouldering talent and of course our regular competition entrants.
You can see the full results from round 4 here>>
With the end of the series we now have a winner in each category. You can see the full results on our website here with the top 2 from each category listed below. The winner each receive a 3 month pass to The Climbing Works while the runner up receives a 1 month pass. Please see Brian to redeem these prizes
1st: Dave Barrans
2nd: Ed Morris
1st: Becky Lounds
2nd: Maya Houlding
1st: Nathan Philips
2nd: Joe Broadhead
1st: Hannah Wilson
2nd: Holly Murray
The big surprise (or realisation really) is the strength of the juniors. Nathan Philips would have finished 2nd in the seniors while Hannah Wilson would have won the female seniors! There were also big scores from a lot of the other U18's and competition climbing certainly looks bright with such a strong youth scene coming through.
This Friday sees the 4th, and final, round of the Evolv Winter Bouldering league take place. As in previous rounds we'll have a fresh 25 blocs to test yourself on. We'll also have the 2 x £125 cash problems for Men & Womens included in these so expect to try hard if you want to win some cash.
The prizes for the overall winners of the Evolv Winter bouldering league in each category is a 3 month pass to The Climbing Works. There will also be a 1 month pass for those who finish 2nd in each category. The best 3 rounds out of the 4 will count towards the final score so there's plenty to play for.
As usual we will also have the Evolv prize draw for those who hand in their scorecard at the end of the round. Up for grabs are a pair of Evolv shoes, clothing and chalkbags. This will also be the last competition before The CWIF which will take part on the 10th & 11th March. Registration is already over half full with plenty of teams taking shape. Make sure to register soon if you want to be part of the big weekend.
To get you psyched for the final round, we've got the highlights of round 3 below. Enjoy!
The response to the CWIF registration going live has been pretty phenomenal. 10 days in and 130 entrants already means we are way above any previous year and something we didn't expect. We've got a month to go to the big weekend so don't leave your registration late if you're keen to be involved, register now online.
New into the shop this week are the FiveTennie's in Green & the long awaited FiveTen Knee Pad. The knee pad has already been tested by Percy (see below) and as you'd expect from a Five Ten rubber product - it sticks. For those who enjoy their peak limestone routes, long stamina routes in Spanish caves or Font / Grit bouldering, one of these in your Arsenal could make the difference between a new tick or being airborne once again.
This week we've reset the purples and you now have a 35 bloc circuit up to Font 6b+. Next week is the last Evolv Bouldering League so the Berghaus Competition wall will be stripped on Thursday with Round 4 taking place on Friday 17th.
You may have noticed recently that we've begun stocking a new recovery drink lately. The NourishMeNow sports recovery drink is a mix of Milk & Yoghurt all sourced from the Peak District. They've just received the coveted Made in Sheffield mark of approval and we're proud to support this small local company. It's a perfect post climb recovery drink - check it out next time you're in.
The Climbing Works International Festival returns on the 10th & 11th March 2012 and today we have opened registration for this fantastic weekend of climbing.
It's a superb time to be in the steel city as the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) also takes part over the same dates. The combination of top level bouldering and adventure films gives you little excuse not to come and get involved.
To get you excited, check out the trailers below for The CWIF 2012 and ShAFF. You can register for The CWIF at www.thecwif.co.uk
