Events - January 2018
The third round of the Mini Works Winter Bouldering Ladder will be set on Friday 5th January.
Any outstanding score cards should be handed in to the Mini Works reception.
The bouldering ladder is a fun competition set over 4 months. Each month a new circuit of 20 progressive boulder problems will be set and points awarded to climbers depending on the number of attempts it takes to complete each boulder. Participants can have as many attempts as they like over the course of the month and at the end of each round scores will be announced and a new circuit of 20 problems set.
The ladder is suitable for 5 - 14 year olds and within the 20 problem circuit climbs 1 - 6 will be set suitable for 5 - 6 year olds, 1 - 10 suitable for 7 - 8 year olds, 1 - 16 suitable for 9 - 11 year olds and 1 - 20 suitable for 12 - 14 year olds. Of course anyone can try and complete any climb within the circuit, this is just a guide.
The point system is explained on the score cards. Score cards for the third round can be printed off here or pick one up from the Mini Works for £1.
The rules, this is a self marked competition so no cheating!!
1) An attempt starts as soon as your feet leave the floor
2) One hand must start on the numbered hold - finish by matching the top hold
3) Only use the black coloured holds used on the circuit. Aretes, volumes and wall features are allowed.
4) Hand your scorecard to reception when you have finished
Score will be split into male and female 5- 6 yrs / 7 – 8 yrs / 9 – 11 yrs / 12 – 14 yrs. Results from each round will be posted on the website and in the Mini Works. The overall winners will be announced after all 4 rounds. The top 3 scores from each competitor will be add together to find the overall Winter Bouldering Ladder Champions.
Round 3 - 5th Jan - 30th Jan
Round 4 - 2nd Feb - 27th Feb
The Beastmaker International Footless Festival (BIFF) returns to The Climbing Works on Saturday 27th January 2017. This year it is the Final of Tour de BIFF where qualification rounds were held here at The Climbing Works & The Castle in London.
The 4th year of BIFF at The Climbing Works will be bigger, with fewer feet and even more silly than the rest. We are planning a very special evening that will be great to compete in and a great evening to watch.
6.30pm Competitor registration opens
7pm Wall closes to the public & spectators are let back in
7.30 - 9.30pm Main Competition
10pm Competition Final
11pm-ish The end!
Being that this is the final of the Tour de BIFF, anyone wanting to compete in the final will needed to qualify by having been in the top 10 at last years BIFF Final (held at the Climbing Works in Jan 2017) or top 5 in either of the 2 Tour de BIFF rounds held at the Castle in London or here at the Climbing Works in December 2017. Beastmaker also reserve the right to invite some wild cards, so if you missed the Tour rounds but are obscenely strong it may be worth getting in touch with them!
You'll need to pay your normal entry fee for the wall (we'd recommend coming in a bit early to warm up really well) and donate £10 to CAC (bring cash for this please!) when you sign in for the comp from 6.30pm.
The footless blocs will be even harder this year to make for better watching, hence the need for qualifications. No-one likes entering what they they was going to be a fun comp only to find they can't get off the ground!
BIFF is a very silly comp without the use of feet, so competitors must be over 16.
Spectators & livestream
This event is for you guys! Due to limited space this is a ticketed event for spectators - all proceeds from this will go to CAC. Spectator tickets have SOLD OUT, but you can watch the livestream here on Youtube!
There will be food and drinks available on the night and lots of strong people doing stupid and impressive stuff without any feet. Heckling is encouraged and will be encouraged with live commentary.
Some Most spectators will be drinking beer and Percy could say almost anything while he's commentating (we haven't got his filter working yet...), so this event isn't suitable for children!

Food & Drink
We'll have pizza available from Porter Pizza based in Sharrow Vale from 6pm, along with beers, mulled wine & our usual hot & cold drinks & snacks.

The Rab CWIF 2018 will take place on the 10th & 11th March 2018.
Registration for competitors opens at 12 noon on Monday 29th January.
The main change for 2018 is that we are increasing the minimum age of competitors for the CWIF to 14 years old on 10th March 2018. The qualification circuit is always set for adults & 14 is our minimum age for unsupervised climbing, so it will reduce the number of people needed on the mats during the qualification rounds.
We will still have 3 qualification sessions, with the earliest aimed at those expecting to qualify for the semi finals & the 3rd 'fun' session with some extra blocs set for those who won't get on so well with the harder blocs & aren't expecting to get into the semis.
For an overview of what usually happens at CWIF check out the page here.
