How to get here

The Climbing Works is located just off Abbeydale Road ( A621) on the way out to Gardoms and Chatsworth. It is easily accessible both by car and by bus.

By bus:

There are numerous buses that go up Abbeydale Road from town, and many even go up Woodseats Road and stop virtually outside The Climbing Works. Numbers 75, 76 go up (and down) Woodseats Road, get off at the stop just after the railway bridge. Numbers 97, 98 go up Abbeydale Road, get off at the stop just after Woodseats Road (off licence on the corner).  There is also the irregular 85 that goes from Hunters Bar via Carterknowle Rad to Tescos, again get off on Abbeydale Road by the off licence.

By car:

From Sheffield centre. Follow the A621 (Abbeydale Road) for about 3 miles, going past such landmarks as The Broadfield pub on your right. After about 0.5 miles the road bends to the left. There is a row of shops on the left and a few 2nd hand car sales places on your right. Take the left at a set of lights with a left fork (this is Woodseats Road). There is a Rhythm and Booze off licence on this corner and a Charlie Browns motorist centre on the RHS of Abbeydale Road at this point. Go over the railway bridge (look down on your left and you will see our sign) and take the 1st left (Athol Road – the PO sorting office is a good landmark). The road turns left immediately and miraculously turns into Little London Road. Turn left into the silver gates. And that is us.

From the south via M1. Leave the M1 at Jct 29 and go through Chesterfield towards Sheffield. When you get into Sheffield you go down a decent hill and then the road levels and bends to the right. It then bends back left and you are on a fairly busy shopping street. Continue straight on (Tescos on your RHS) and then take a left onto Woodseats Road. Go down Woodseats Road until the bottom of the hill and just before the railway bridge turn right onto Athol Road. The road turns left immediately and miraculously turns into Little London Road. Turn left into the silver gates. And that is us.

From the Peak (Gardoms and Baslow). Follow the A621 into Sheffield. Go downhill for a bit. Once the road flattens out you will go past Dore train station on your right, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet (again on your right) and Millhouses Park (on your right). About 1 mile after the park there is a Tesco’s petrol station (on your right of course) and a hidden Tescos (24 hour!!). Go through the 1st proper set of lights (Bannerdale Rd to the left and Archer Rd to the right), through a pedestrian crossing and get into the right hand lane at the next set of lights (Rhythm and Booze off licence on the corner on your right). Turn right onto Woodseats Road. Go over the railway bridge (look down on your left and you will see our sign) and take the 1st left (Athol Road – the PO sorting office is a good landmark). The road turns left immediately and miraculously turns into Little London Road. Turn left into the silver gates. And that is us.

From the Peak (Fox House). Follow the A625 into Sheffield. A couple of hundred yards after you hit the 30 speed limit there is a road that breaks off to the right. Take this right (Whirlowdale Road, signed M1/M18 and go down it for about 1 mile (ignoring the left hand fork halfway down). At the bottom take the left onto A621 (Abbeydale Road) and follow directions for from Gardoms and Baslow – you have joined Abbeydale Road just before Millhouses Park.

From the Peak (Stanage and Burbage) Follow Ringinglow Road into Sheffield. Ignore the fact that Ringinglow Road actually turns off itself and continue straight down (it is now called Knowle Lane) until you hit Ecclesall Road (the A625). Turn left down the hill and stay in the right hand lane for the lights (Prince of Wales pub on the corner by the lights). Take the right at the lights onto Carterknowle Road. Follow this (speed bumps) until the bottom (about 2 miles) when it hits Abbeydale Road ( the A621). Turn right here (heading out of town). There is a row of shops on the left and a few 2nd hand car sales places on your right. Take the left at a set of lights with a left fork (this is Woodseats Road). There is an off licence on this corner and a Charlie Browns motorist centre on the RHS of Abbeydale Road at this point. Go over the railway bridge (look down on your left and you will see our sign) and take the 1st left (Athol Road – the PO sorting office is a good landmark). The road turns left immediately and miraculously turns into Little London Road. Turn left into the silver gates. And that is us.
