The CWIF 2011 Report

Wondering what The CWIF is all about? Keep reading to get an idea of The CWIF 2011 weekend.

The CWIF 2011 was supported by Scarpa, UKClimbing.comHoldz and HRT holds. These companies help make The CWIF what it is. Without this support, The CWIF would not be as much fun.

Report

It says that a picture tells a thousand words, well a film can tell you alot more than that. Below is a collection from the weekend set out in chronological order. They'll give you an idea of what the whole weekend is about and why you need to be here in 2012.

The Berghaus Competition Wall

In February we tore down the old competition wall and replaced with a brand new, all singing, all dancing, one. This was christened at The CWIF. You can watch a timelapse of the build below

The Qualifying - Saturday 5th March:

The qualifying sessions that took place were split into two. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. We had 300 competitors take part in the CWIF with more than 31 teams (4 climbers, had to be mixed gender) going for the £500 Team prize.

We edited a short film together that we put out Saturday afternoon to give people an idea of what was going on and what qualifying at The CWIF was all about. You can view this below:

The qualifying session wasn't just about reducing the 300 climbers down to 16 men & women for the semi's. As you can see from the film above it was also about having a great time with your friends, in a relaxed atmosphere, climbing alongside some of the best climbers in the World. This is what makes The CWIF so unique. The opportunity to climb alongside V15 climbers, to test yourself against the same problems, to feel the hold they crushed and you can't even reach. This helps define what is achievable and what anyone can do when they put the time and effort in. The CWIF allows you to climb with the best and hopefully get you psyched to push harder (on the day itself and after the comp).

The Semi's & Finals

A preview film of The CWIF 2011 finals that we put out on Saturday night:

Sunday 6th March dawned beautiful but even the amazingly good weather did not stop a huge crowd turning out to watch the midday kick-off to the Semi-Finals. 16 Men & Women went against the routesetters and themselves, testing not only their strength but also all of their climbing skills as they tried the weird and wonderful creations set by the team. After the Semi's we had the FREE BBQ in glorious sunshine with Peak District reared beefburgers and locally sourced Veggie burgers on the menu.

As the Sun set, the main event began. The Finals. 6 Men & Women competing to be CWIF champion. The route setters once again came up with problems that tested the full range of skills of the finalists. In the Men's, Jernej Kruder, SLO, showed why he can wear orange trousers and get away with it. A display of immense power and psyche (he smiled the whole way through the Final) left Jernej under the last problem knowing a top would seal the win. Not only did he top it, he flashed it. A fantastic effort as the first move was an all out doudle catch / dyno that you can see in the film below.

In the Womens event, The Climbing Works own mild mannered receptionist Katy Whittaker showed amazing form to come out on top in a very strong field. Katy won by the slenderest of margins (1 less go) digging deep to flash the final problem and become CWIF 2011 champion.
