The Climbing Works International Masters Bouldering Competition

Saturday 24th March, 2007

The Climbing Works in Sheffield, the Worlds biggest dedicated bouldering wall, would like to invite the best boulderers in the World to come and try our boulders.

So, one week after the European Championships in Birmingham, The Climbing Works will host a Masters competition which will be open to all to come and pit your skills against the best boulderers there are.

Competition Format

The format of the event will be as follows. The qualification period will be in the morning. First Women and then men will have a two hour qualification period where they will attempt 10 problems, with a maximum of 3 attempts per problem. The level of difficulty of these problems will be from Font 6b to Font 7b for the Women and Font 7a to Font 7c+ for the Men. There will be no isolation for the qualification, and problems can be attempted in any order as competitors prefer. The best 6 men and women from the qualification round will go through to the final.

The final round will take place in the evening, and will consist of 6 problems to be attempted on-sight. Each competitor will have 6 minutes to try each problem, with 6 minutes rest between problems. Competitors will come out in reverse order of qualification, with the best from the qualifying round climbing last.

Note that the wall will be closed for climbing on the day of the competition (24th March 2007), but spectating is free and encouraged.

Other Attractions

The Climbing Works International Masters Bouldering Competition will be filmed for future TV broadcast and DVD release, and due to the fact that the European Championships has been held in Birmingham only 6 days prior to the competition, the turnout of top climbers from overseas is expected to be very high. World Cup Champion, Jerome Meyer from France, has already expressed an interest in attending the event along with a load of French superstars. Spectators for this event will be able to watch the event for free.

The after competition party will be held at The Workstation (next to the Showroom Cinema) in Sheffield city centre, and is brought to you in association with Heason Events and ShAFF. The party will start at 10pm and will run until late.

The weekend of the competition is also the culmination of the Sheffield Adventure Film Forum (ShAFF) so there will be many other activities for visiting climbers to do, and a load of good new climbing films to watch. Check out the ShAFF website for details.

The other main attraction for attending this competition will be hosted climbing in the Peak District. Many of Sheffield’s local climbers will be on hand to give guided tours of the local gritstone climbing to visiting boulderers.
