The Climbing Works runs the following selection of training courses and coaching sessions: Adult
Induction Session This is the session for all adults (18 and upwards) with no experience of bouldering who wish to come and use The Climbing Works unsupervised. The course consists of one and a half hours tuition with one of our qualified instructors, and focuses on how to use the climbing walls safely. This course is obligatory if you would like to use The Climbing Works but have never climbed before. Once you have done this session, you are free to use the centre when ever you like unsupervised, and can also sign in and supervise other climbers. Monday 7.30pm – 9pm Sessions need to be booked a minimum 2 days before. Children’s
sessions Aimed at kids from between the ages of 7 and 14, our children’s courses last for one and a half hours and are supervised by qualified instructors. These are the sessions for children who have not used a climbing wall before, or have only done a little climbing. The sessions are designed to teach children safe and effective use of the bouldering walls, but with the emphasis on fun and having a good time. These sessions can be booked as and when you like. Children who have done a few of these sessions and would like to progress further with their bouldering should join our regular BlocMaster sessions. Monday 5.30pm-7pm Adult Climbing Group Cost is just your normal entrance fee. No extra cost. Supervised by our qualified instructors, the adult climbing sessions are for climbers looking to improve and meet new people to climb with. It's all about enjoyment and learning new techniques with the help of a Climbing Works instructor. Just turn up on the night, no need for prior booking. Wednesday 7.30pm – 10pm Children’s
Parties One and a half hours climbing with our qualified staff – with the emphasis very much on having a fun time! A great way to wear your kids out! Price includes all equipment hire and instructors. If you would like to bring party food, cakes, etc. this can be arranged. Please speak to our reception staff for more details. Parties must be booked 2 weeks in advance.. Group
bouldering events Need to organise an event for a works night out? Or simply want to get together with a group of friends and try bouldering? Contact The Climbing Works and book yourself a session with our instructors. Session lengths range from one and a half hours through to entire day events – we can tailor courses to suit your requirements. Give us a ring on 0114 250 9990 and speak to one of our staff for more details. Sessions can be booked anytime. Climbing Work’s coaching Once you have learnt to use our bouldering
walls, you are free to come and climb whenever you like. However, for
those who would like to learn new skills and techniques, or if you just
want to get all the problems in one circuit finished and progress to the
next level of difficulty, then our coaching sessions are for you. All
adult coaching is done on a relaxed and friendly basis by our team of
professional coaches. Sessions run regularly every Wednesday evening where
you can just turn up and join in. You can also book one-to-one sessions
with one of our coaching team in order to get a more personalised training
plan. Private one to one sessions can be
booked anytime. Andrew Earl 3 times British Bouldering Champion, 2nd European Bouldering Championships 2004, Boulders Font 8b+, Sport climbs 8c, Trad climbs E9, qualified sport scientist and professional climbing coach, coach to the British Climbing Team. Ben Bransby Former British Junior Climbing Champion, boulders Font 8b, climbs anything from trad E9 to Patagonian big walls. James Pearson AKA ‘Keen Youth’, James is one of the new breed of strong climbers. Has bouldered Font 8b+ and climbed Trad E10! Sam Whittaker One of The Climbing Works directors, but has done a bit of climbing apparently – including trad ascents up to E9. (No stamina though!) Lucinda Hughes Former British Women’s bouldering champion has climbed all over the place, from big walls in Canada to Trad E7 on gritstone. The Climbing Works welcome’s Outdoor centres, School groups and other groups with there own instructors. We are open to arranging special sessions out of normal opening hours for groups with time constraints. This will cost £4 a head and the instructors will climb for free.
